Community-based disaster risk management (CBDRM) and community-led crisis response

Community-based disaster risk management (CBDRM) and community-led crisis response:
ADO adopts many successful practices in community-led crisis management, including dealing with camp fires, enhancing community participation to ensure the sustainability of water stations, and implementing collective cash transfer interventions in various sectors.
Examples of best practices:
GIZ-funded project: Strengthening Resilience and Participation at Local Level in Yemen (SRPL) program. Activities included implementing cash-for-work (CfW) measures in Al-Hawtah and Al-Rashidiyah villages in the Rural Mukalla Directorate in Hadramaut Governorate. Activities included building a protective wall and rehabilitating irrigation canals to mitigate the effects of climate change and protect agricultural lands from flooding.
Disaster Risk Reduction in Conflict Contexts (linked to the Triple Nexus approach): Abs leads the “Triple Nexus in Yemen” initiative, which aims to develop a strategy for implementing this approach in projects. The strategy includes three main axes: establishing a baseline, strengthening community participation and responsibility, and building capacities. The initiative adopts a multi-sectoral approach that integrates climate change as an essential part of the strategy.

Cholera Outbreak:
Needs-based approach: Establishing a Diarrhea Treatment Center (DTC) to support the monitoring and management of cholera cases.
Community Committees: Raising awareness about cholera, rehabilitating water sources, and drilling wells to provide clean water.
Integrated intervention: implemented in the same targeted areas, focusing on addressing the main source of cholera outbreak. This approach highlights the importance of community engagement and local capacity building in dealing with public health issues.
