Al-Najah Elementary School is located in Shamsan village and provides educational services to the village and all neighboring villages (Al-Maban – Al-Masbah – Wadi Salalah – Beit Al-Tur – Al-Mahajin – Al-Safaha). The school consists of three buildings, two of which were built in 1978 and have not been rehabilitated since then, and an additional building was built by the Education Office in the region. The buildings were constructed to provide education for people living in the area. In 2006, with the increasing population and the importance of better education for people along with the importance of girls’ education, the number of students enrolled increased and led to the need for more classrooms. This need prompted the Education Office in the region to construct the additional building.
The region suffers from a lack of services in general and a lack of education in particular. The total population of the villages (Al-Majan, Al-Mahjan Al-Shamali, Wadi Salalah, Shamsan, Cairo, Al-Mabna, Al-Safa, Beit Al-Tur, Al-Mahjan Al-Janoubi, Al-Masbah) is about 26,581 individuals according to the population statistics for 2019. The total number of boys and girls over the age of 6 and under the age of 14 is 4,784. There are seven schools in this area (3 private schools and 4 public schools) with a current capacity of 3,100 male and female students. Most of the residents are poor farmers who depend on rainwater for agriculture. Registration fees in private schools are not affordable for most members of society, while the number of seats in public schools is limited. As a result, the villagers who live on the outskirts of the city refuse to register their children in schools either because they cannot afford the registration fees in private schools or because they are afraid to send their children to study in them, which led to the intervention in this school with the following services:
– Rehabilitation of 9 classrooms.
– Construction of 6 new classrooms.
— Rehabilitation of the fence and planting trees in the school yard.
– Construction of 6 bathrooms for students and 3 bathrooms for people with special needs.
– Construction of a water harvesting tank in the school with a capacity of 36 cubic meters.
– Providing the school with furniture.
– Providing the school with a solar energy system.
