This sector aims to alleviate the suffering of the Internally Displaced
People (IDPs) protecting their dignity by providing them the urgently required humanitarian
assistance.
Abs Development Organization
(ADO) has played a pioneering role in assisting IDPs with safe, dignified,
appropriate living conditions, and easy access to essential services. Both, in partnership with UNHCR, it started working in shelter
and CCCM activities, both, on its own initiative and in collaboration with
UNHCR. Shelter and CCCM activities continued thus to be implemented in a number
of projects. Approximately 5,200 transitional shelters were completed in
partnership with UNHCR and OCHA. ADO has also established the Camp Management
Manual in participation with the cluster in the design work for the
transitional shelter from the local materials in Tehama. ADO reached 580,785
male and female beneficiaries benefited from 5,500 transitional shelters as of April
2020. As part of the Shelter sector activities and in coordination with shelter
partners working in the same areas, ADO continues to provide monthly rental
subsidies for 25 HHs up to the present. ADO has been one of the most active members in the Shelter Cluster since 2017. It implemented the 1st CCCM Project in Yemen in Hajjah in 2018. ADO has led AAP TWiG and Shelter Options TWiG for two years duration between 2017 – 2018. Since 2016 in particular, ADO has accumulated various technical expertise in Shelter including (TS, ESKS, NFIs, CCCM, Winterization support, rental subsidies and so on…)
Goal
Through this sector,
ADO aims to provide appropriate and safe shelter for the Internally displaced people
from the most vulnerable people in order to alleviate their suffering and
protect their dignity. It also aims to manage IDP sites assisting them in
improving their displacement conditions.
Methodology
Rehabilitation buildings for IDPs HHs in Abs district of Hajja Governorate
Currently ADO’s assistance to IDPs is mainly focusing on Cash for Rental activities. This assistance is a form of basic financial aid that offers vulnerable households renting a safe shelter
for a limited period of time. This short-term solution allows IDPs to have access to adequate and dignified housing until they can find a dependable and sustainable source of income in Abs district of Hajja Governorate.
Currently, ADO assistance to IDPs is mainly in the form of Rental subsidies through which vulnerable households are offered to rent a temporarily safe shelter.
