Hemodialysis Center Furnishing Project in Abs District:
Abs is the largest district in Hajjah Governorate in terms of area and population, with a population of approximately 500,000. It has received the largest number of IDPs from Haradh, Midi, and Hayran districts, as well as from Al Hudaydah and Sa’dah governorates, and is also geographically significant. Abs District suffers from extreme poverty, with kidney failure prevalent among women, children, and men. The total number of kidney failure patients in Hajjah Governorate is approximately 352, including 180 in Tihama District.
Kidney failure patients in Abs and the surrounding areas of Hajjah City are treated at the dialysis center at Al-Jumhuri Hospital, located 120 km from the center of Shafar. The number of kidney patients in Tihama District is approximately 180, and they must travel long distances to receive treatment at least three times a week, which poses a significant challenge. The dialysis center in Hajjah City has limited equipment capacity, forcing it to operate 24 hours a day and shorten the treatment time per session. This has led to an increase in the number of treatment sessions required each week, increasing the burden on patients who must travel long distances for treatment.
To address this dilemma, the following interventions were implemented:
Providing 10 dialysis machines and 10 dialysis chairs
Providing the required equipment for the dialysis unit
Providing equipment for the laboratory unit
Providing equipment for the sterilization unit
Providing a 150 kV generator
Providing 10 UPS power supplies for the equipment
Performing some simple work, such as supplying aluminum partitions to the center and handrails for the corridors.
