Localization

Localization of humanitarian work is a fundamental shift in the way aid and relief efforts are conceived and executed. This approach emphasizes the empowerment of local communities and organizations in crisis-affected regions to take the lead in responding to emergencies. By recognizing and leveraging local knowledge, resources, and capacities, localization not only improves the effectiveness and efficiency of humanitarian responses but also fosters resilience and sustainability within the communities themselves. It promotes a more inclusive and equitable approach to aid delivery, ensuring that the voices and needs of those directly affected by crises are central to decision-making processes. Ultimately, localization enhances the dignity and self-reliance of vulnerable populations and contributes to building stronger, more resilient communities that are better prepared to navigate the challenges of an increasingly complex humanitarian landscape.

These are some examples of localization campaigns implemented by ADO:

·    ADO and Tamdeen Youth foundation with other nine local organization established ”Initiative of Localization and Optimization of Response In Yemen” in 2021. This initiative is a federation of organizations in Yemen that aims to support the causes of various organizations, increase funding opportunities for humanitarian projects, build the capacities of local organizations and support others Grand Bargain Goals.

·    ADO believes in the significance of localizing humanitarian work and has participated in many conferences focusing on localization. ADO has participated in the NGO consultation for localization strategy lead by UN OCHA and developing localization strategy led by Tamdeen Youth Foundation.

·    ADO has been selected as CSOs representative in the international advocacy working group. In addition, ADO was among the first Yemeni local CSOs that called for implementing the Grand Bargain Agreement through its participation in the Joint statement during the 77th United Nations’ General Assembly. ADO is local organization with field expertise in community engagement and health outbreaks such as cholera and COVID-19.
