In the Heart of Tragedy, Stories of Hope and Resilience Emerge

Among these stories is that of Salih Salih Ali, a 12-year-old boy who lives with his family in a modest hut in Al-Dabratain village, Haradh District. Unlike other children his age, Salih was forced to take on the responsibility of providing for his family, which consists of his mother and four sisters, while his father remained unemployed. This burden weighed heavily on his young shoulders, making his childhood anything but ordinary.

As the conflict in the region escalated, staying in their village became unsafe, forcing the family to flee to Dughayesh area in Hayran District in search of security. However, fate was not kind to them, as the flames of war soon followed them to their new home. While Salih ventured out to secure basic necessities for his family, he was caught in an airstrike. Shrapnel flew in all directions, and one piece struck him, causing the loss of his right eye. Despite his injury, Salih remained the sole provider for his family, now struggling with a visual impairment.

Upon learning about Salih’s condition, Abs Development Organization for Women and Children, in collaboration with UNICEF, swiftly mobilized its field teams to provide urgent medical care. He was transported to a specialized eye hospital, where doctors conducted thorough examinations and recommended a prosthetic eye implant to replace the one he had lost. Given the high costs of the procedure, Abs Organization, in partnership with UNICEF, covered all expenses, restoring hope and bringing back a smile to Salih’s face—after war had nearly stolen his vision and his future.

This story reflects Abs Organization’s commitment to supporting children affected by conflict and providing them with the assistance they need to secure a dignified life. However, many children like Salih still await a helping hand to bring them hope for a better tomorrow.
